The famous tea house known as Shoko-ken which stands at this temple was built by Tadaoki Hosokawa. Equally admired is the tea-house, known as Horai，Next to it stands a famous wash-basin, hollowed from a stone brought to Japan from the Imperial Palace in Korea. In the precincts of this temple are the remains of Lord Hosokawa and his wife, Lady Gratia. The grave is a stone lantern which Hosokawa loved before his death．

This magnificent event has been staged annually as way to appreciate the fantastic natural autumn environment of Arashiyama, famous for its maple leaves. On boats on the river, people dressed in the traditional costume perform dance and music.
